History of Our Company

Our company was founded in 1954 by John McGeachie and held its first meeting in Sandaig School.

The two other founding officers were James Sneddon and Gordon Russell.

Our first inspection was held in the 94th Glasgow's hall in Sandyhills.  The Chairman was our Chaplain , Rev W.P. McNaughton and the Inspecting Officer was G.T. Stoddart, 94th Glasgow.

Our first camp was to Port Stewart , Northern Ireland and was enjoyed by 43 boys and staff. After a lot of hard work , our band paraded with the company and was dedicated on 19th Feb 1961. This was followed by the dedication of our colours in 1963.

The company lost the services of our first Captain , John McGeachie when he died suddenly in 1965. He was succeeded by James Sheppard Snr who captained the company until 1970. James Green then became Captain. He left in 1972 to be followed by Alex Jeffrey who led the company until 1978 when he moved from Glasgow to Glenboig and started a company in that village. James Sheppard Snr took over as Captain for a second time and led the company until 1986 when he was succeeded by his son James Sheppard Jnr. James gave up the Captaincy in Sept 2001.

The present Captain is Mr Daniel Sheppard.

It is a great tribute to our company that we have produced 4 of our own Captains and 4 Captains for other companies.

Captains and boys may come and go but we have been very lucky to have had a number of very dedicated officers in our history.

Norah McNeil ran our Anchor Boys (Shipmates) for 19 years.

Robert C Young (Auld Young) ran our Junior section for over 30 years. After his death his family presented a trophy to the Junior Section which is awarded to the section's Best All Round Boy.

James Cochrane ran our Junior Section for 3 years. After his death,  his wife Irene presented a shield to the section which is awarded for Spiritual Activities

George Mulveny RO taught our boys ( and boys from many other companies) First Aid for many years. George has served as a BB officer for  70 years.

Jim Scott retired as an officer after 20 years service.
